Laurie Martin

Marketing Coordinator

Aspirations and Goals as a Human Being:

Do the best I can and continually learn new things, but also be content with where I’m at and what I’ve done so far.

Experience, Education and Credentials:

Bachelor’s in Agriculture Communications, Master’s in Mass Communications, several internships and jobs throughout college focusing on marketing communications.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Ride horses, do something active outside… or watch my latest favorite show on Netflix.

Favorite quote:

I honestly don’t really do quotes. I’d have to google something if I wanted to put something here so I don’t think that would classify as a “favorite” quote.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us:

I would rather stand in a long line at the grocery store then have to make small talk with someone I’m acquainted with in a short line. Nothing against the other person… I just dislike small talk that much.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you:

  1. I have traveled to 13 countries, because on my side of the family, besides my mom and dad, I have no family that lives in Texas.
  2. I have one claim to fame… I was the 2017-2018 Texas Tech Masked Rider.
  3. I’m really nice and quiet until I warm up to you, and then all jokes are fair game.

Three words to best describe you:

Not going to lie… I am equal parts ambitious and lazy. (I love being productive and am going to do any job to the best of my ability, but I am also perfectly content to do nothing.)

And then I’ll have to throw in quirky for my third word.

Anything else you want to share (family, hobbies, whatever)

I love environmental photography. Whether that’s taking pictures of people in action or landscapes.

What do you like most about Slate Group?

How much they strive to align with the core values they set out. A lot of companies make core values, but don’t do anything to stick to them. All the employees here at Slate Group live by them, and it makes it such a great place to be.

What do you like most about your role at Slate Group?

I love how creative I can be. Ideas are never shot down but built upon and improved. There is no bad idea here, and everyone can have an opinion.

What drew you to Slate Group originally?
When I was being interviewed, I could tell that the work environment was going to be unbeatable. It has not let me down since.
